Services
Mr Luke Clifford provides private care for a wide range of ophthalmic problems. From sore eyes, red eyes and watery eyes to blurred vision, floaters and double vision. He has particular expertise in managing childrens eye health problems and adult strabismus (squint) as well as extensive experience in cataract surgery and treating lid lumps.
He is able to provide assessment and advice for any eye problem but also has many colleagues in the region who he is able to access to make sure his patients get the best care possible.
He is happy to see any person who has an eye problem requiring treatment, those just seeking advice or a second opinion or those who just want an eye health check.
General Ophthalmology
Luke Clifford is happy to assess, advise and manage a wide variety of eye problems including:
Lid lumps and bumps
Sore eyes
Red eyes
Dry eyes
Blurred vision
Floaters and flashes

Cataract
Luke Clifford is an experienced cataract surgeon, mainly using monofocal and monofocal plus lenses but able to discuss all available lens types available.
He is able to provide surgery with drops (topical), anaesthetic injection (block), with sedation or under a general anaesthetic depending on the patients requirements.
Patients are seen and operated on at Sarum Road Hospital, Winchester or Candover clinic, Basingstoke.
Paediatric Ophthalmology
Luke Clifford is one of only a few ophthalmologists who sees children privately.
Many private hospitals no longer provide facilities to see people under 18 but Mr Clifford is able to see and manage childrens eye problems at the North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke, the Candover Clinic, Basingstoke and Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester.
Most children will also require an orthoptic assessment which will be arranged to happen all at one visit.
Adult Strabismus
Luke Clifford can assess and manage any adults with an ocular misalignment (squint) whether this is to improve the cosmetic appearance or treat the functional issues this causes such as double vision.
He sees patients with this problem at the North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke or Royal County Hampshire Hospital, Winchester so that they can have an orthoptic assessment at the same time.
Prices
Mr Luke Clifford is recognised by all insurance companies and charges within their fee structures. Self-funding patients charges are listed below.
New Consultation: £220
Follow up: £120
Orthoptic assessment £125 (if required, billed separately).
Other investigations such as visual field tests, OCT scans, biometry will incur separate charges from the hospitals.
For any surgery a fixed price quote will be provided which will include surgeon fee, hospital fee and any follow up fees with Mr Clifford included. This varies depending on the surgical procedure and which hospital the procedure takes place in.
